November 1, 2013 – ChickenSoup @ Shum Shui Po

Two months into our partnership in ChickenSoup @ Chai Wan, the Foodlink Foundation introduced to us one of their beneficiaries located at the heart of Shum Shui Po as our next potential “kitchen” for Chicken Soup.

Ms. Elli Fu is the founder and operator of two private social service centers called J Life and J Café in Shum Shui Po, for primary and secondary school students, respectively.  Elli, who grew up in an orphanage with her brother, is a dedicated Christian.  She has always wanted to give back to her home Shum Shui Po, one of the poorest districts in Hong Kong

Since 2006, Elli gave up her career in marketing and has been actively serving underprivileged families in the area on a full time basis.  Her “customers” varied from kids to single mothers, from teenage mothers to drug addicts.  In addition to her core role in servicing, Elli sourced ad hoc donations from the local community to fund the operations of the two centers, particularly in facilities rental, as well as solicited food and household goods for her beneficiaries.

In November 2013, The Associates structured the second Chicken Soup Program to fund the current operation and to provide additional resources, so Elli can focus on servicing and building her team.  Currently, the two centers offer comprehensive after-school care service for a total of 210 families, providing tutoring services, weekend classes and nutritious meals to the families.

Three donor-investors committed to a two year financial sponsorship: Mr. & Mrs Chee, who are friends and loyal investors of The Associates, and Well Family Charity Foundation run by Ms. Sonia Law and Andy Tsang, who were referred to us by Fiona Chan, a recruiting agent for The Associates.
