December 7, 2013 – Acting on TED Ideas

The Associates was invited to speak at the TEDx Kowloon Annual Conference 2013 to preview their upcoming theme in 2014, which is “to act.”

We have been much inspired by TED talks, which helped shaping our investment practice in lifestyle and responsible businesses.

How many inspiring TED talks have you heard, and upon which you have acted?   These are our top three picks behind our Responsible Investment practice.

1) Not five, but one force:  Harvard professor and business guru Michael Porter exemplifies how the business world is best at solving social problems given their financial resources, brain power and people network.

2) Giving with your heart and your brain.  Oxford philosopher Peter Singer illustrates how giving can be more than emotionally motivated, but being practical in giving is as easy and worthwhile.

3) Just do it, you can’t learn everything before you start new.  Giving up a high-flying New York fashion design career, Elora Hardy takes a personal stance on “building” a sustainable future in her home Bali, Indonesia, by just getting her feet wet.
